The site of Han’ gu Pass of Xin’ an County is an important pass remain that the Han Empire built to defend the capital in Central China and was a must gateway for a westward journey from the starting point of the Silk Roads when Luoyang was the capital city of the Eastern Han Dynasty. Used from the 2nd century BC to the 3rd century AD, the site was located in the valley of Jian River in the extension of the eastern section of Qin Mountains, controlling the transportation between Luoyang Basin and Guanzhong Basin as a strategically important pass. It witnesses the transport management system and the defense system of the Han Dynasty, to guarantees for long-distance transportation and communication along the Silk Roads.
