TENTATICVE PROGRAMME
Apart form the main seminars exhibitions and special ecents mentioned
below,a cultural progamme including visits to sites and museums will be
organized at each port of call(see itinerary).
It is planned to divide the expedition into 4 main legs as follows.
However,within these legs shorter periods may be considered ,in so fae as pla-

semiar in muscat on the theme"significance of Omani Maritime Heritage
to Silk Roads".Between 17 and 25 November 1990.Exhibition devoted to
the Eastwards trade in the Arab Period.

From Muscat to Madras(25 November 1990 to 24 December 1990)
seminar in karachi on the theme "Al-sind and Arab seafaring:cluture,
Commerce and Urbanization".2-day seminar between 27 Nocember and
3 December 1990. Exhibition devoted to the Bronze age.
seminar in goa on the theme"maritime contacts between 16-19th century
2-day seminar between 6 and 8 December 1990.
seminar in anuradhapura on the theme"sri lanka as the mid-point in the
east-west Silk Route and the centre of convergence of the Crose currents
of Buddhist philosophy". 2-day seminar between 11 and 17 December 1990.
Seminar in Madras on the theme"indo-Roman trade in early part of the
Christian era".2-day seminar between 19 and 24 December 1990. Exhibition
devoted to the Roman Period.

From madras to Bangkok(24December 1990 to 23 January 1991
Seminar in Surabaya on the theme "habour cities along the Silk Roads".
2-day seminar between 9 and 14 January 1991.
Seminar in Bangkok"ancient trades and cultural contacts in South-East Asia".
2-day seminar between 18 and 23 January1991. Exhibition foreseen in takuapa
pangnga.

Form Bangkok to Osaka(23January1991 to 9 March 1991).
seminar in Quanzhou on the theme "China and the Martime Routes of the
Silk Roads".2-day seminar 14 and 19 February 1991.
Seminar in Pusan(Kyongju)on the theme "Korean culture and the Silk Roads".
2-day seminar between 22 and 26 February 1991.
Osaka:Celebration on the arrival of the "Fulk-al-Salamah"
3 to 9 March 1991,with a final seminar in Nara.
