Information for participants in the Maritime Route Expendition

1.Participants departing from venice should join the ship

directly in Venice on 21 0ctober. The ship is berthed at

Riva dei Sette Martiri, near the Piazza San Marco.  At ports

where team mambers are rep_aced by other participants, the

change over should be made on the day prior to the departure

of the ship (see enclosad schedule) .

2.Scholars should be prepared to take part in the discussion

groups held on board on themes related to the itin.erary

followed by the Expedition.  A Scientific Leader, Co-Leader

and Rapporteur for each Leg will be elected by the

participants.

3.Visas should be obtained for all countries to be visited,

with the exception of Pakistan, Malaysia, indonesia,

Philippinas and Republic of Korea where visas will be

granted on arrival.  For participants visiting oman, visa

application forms have bean given and should be returned

urgently to Unesco with 4 photographs.  For Chinese

participants visiting Republic of Korea, Unesco will request

their visas through the Korean National Commission.

4.Participants  should  ensure  they  have the  necessary

vaccinations required by countries to be visited.  An

information note from the medical doctor on board is

attached.

5.Participants should ensure they are adequately covered by

their own personal insurance, and a global insurance will

be pro'vided by Europe Assistance.

6.Suitable clothing should be foreseen to take account of the

expected climatic conditions (see attached sheet)

MARITIME ROUTE EXPEDITION

PREPARATION BEFORE DEPARTURE

A preliminary medical examination:

This is principally a clinical check-up to ascertain the

general state of health and thus avoid, on arrivai at the

mission area, the discovery of a condition which may prove

difficult to treat on the spot. It is advisable that the

private physican, in case of a sicjnificant medical his.tory,

informs the official doctor of the Expedition of the Silk

Roads .

The condition of the teeth should be checked and dental

treatment should be carried out before departure.  If

spectacles are worn, it is wise to obtain a spare pair. Sun

glasses should not be forgotten.

Vaccination and inoculation certificates :

No international vaccination certificate are required except

for those coming from areas  infected by Yellovr fever.

PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AND TRAVEL AGENCIES.

Other vaccinations are/strongly recommended against Tetanos,

Poliomyelitis and Typhoid (Typhim V l).  Ari injection of

gammaglobulin is recommended.

Small first aid kid

An antibiotic active against numerous pathogenic

bacteria for respiratory and urinary infections with

fever,in particular.

Cholrogunine or Halofantrine

A powder for prevention of cutaneous mucoses

Insect repellent

Symptomatic treatment of all diarrhoeas:Diarsed or

Imodium

It is also useful to obtain before leaving certain products

which are not always easy to find on the spot:

-  an analgesic for headache

-  a sedative for insomnia ro night voyages

-  laxative  tablets

-  an antacid indigestion powder

-  travel sickness pills

-  eye drops for contjunctivitis

-  an antiseptic lotion for local application

-  adhesive dressinqs of various sizes for small cuts or

abrasions.

-  vaso-constrictor nasal drops for colds and allergic

rhinitis

-  adequate supplis of any drug taken regularly for a

chronic health condition should not be forgotten.

Clothing should be adapted to the expected climatic conditions

(see attached list)
