Dear Professor Liu Yingsheng,
It was a pleasure to receive your letter of 17 February,
and to hear that your experience as a participant in the
Maritime and Steppe Route Expeditions is proving useful in
your teaching and studies. On our part, we very much
appreciated your scholarly contributions to the seminars and
to the work of the International Teams during the Expeditions.
The fourth major expedition to be organized in the
framework of the Silk Roads Project is the Nomads/Altaic Route
Expedition in Mongolia, now scheduled to take place from 10
July to 6 August 1992.An international seminar will be held
from 3-5 August on "The Nomads of Central Asia
and the Silk Roads".Iam encloseing herewith the tentative
programme and a general information note prepared by the
Mongolian Organizing Committee, as well as an Application Form
or scholars. Should you be interested in applying, you
should return the completed form to Mr.zhang Chongli,
coordinating Group for the silk roads Project,National
commission of the People s Republic of China for UNESCO,35,
Damucanghutong, Xidan, Beijing(fax (86.1)6017912). The
final selection of scholars will be made by UNESCO, in
consultation with the Consultative Committee and the Mongolian
Coordinating Committee, at the end of April
