(2015) Zhao Feng Participated in the “Eastern Silk Roads Story” International Conference

Upon an invitation from UNESCO Bangkok, Dr. Zhao Feng, the director of the China National Silk Museum, travelled to Gyeongju, South Korea from Nov. 30 to Dec. 4, 2015, to partake in the “Eastern Silk Roads Story” International Conference.

The “Eastern Silk Roads Story” International Conference was hosted by UNESCO and the Gyeongju government. The conference consists of three themes:the influence and symbolism of the Easter Silk Road, the protection of Silk Road cultural relics, and the promotion of mutual understanding and respect though the sharing and discussion of Silk Road knowledge. Dr. Zhao Feng shared his words in a report called “The Silk Relics found in the Eastern Silk Road” to address the second theme of the conference. In his address, Dr. Feng also introduced the China National Silk Museum, the work done by the National Scientific Research Base of the Protection of Silk Relics surrounding “silks on the Silk Road”, and the new alliance formed by international organizations dedicated to silk research. This report led to an overwhelming public interestin silk; UNESCO officials had also given the speech significant acclaim.

During the conference, Dr. Feng engaged in discussions with many experts and researchers, and reached an agreement with the Visual Museum of Asian Masterpieces in Korea.After the meeting, Dr. Feng visited the National Palace Museum of Korea, and met with experts like Dir. Choi to discuss the possibility of frequent cultural exchange.(translated by Bi Ran)
