Helen Persson Swain has been the head of the department of cultural history at the Nordiska museet in Stockholm since 2017.

Helen Wang looks after the Museum’s collection of East Asian coins and banknotes. She also has a special interest in the archaeologist Sir Aurel Stein (1862-1943), his extensive collections, the Silk Road and the use of textiles as money.

She is currently the Emerita Senior Scientific Researcher (Directrice de Recherche Emérite) at the C.N.R.S. (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, France), and also a collaborator of the Franco-Chinese Archaeological Mission in Xinjiang (China). Long pursuing in the history and archaeology of textile production and dyeing, she is the author of several books on Natural Dyes, in French and in English, one of which received the “Art and Science of Colour Prize”, Bronze Award, of the L’Oréal Foundation in 2003. She has also acted as the scientific director of several International Symposiums/Workshops on Natural Dyes in India, Korea, etc. , and has worked on many groups of archaeological textiles both in France and abroad.
