Helen Wang Curator of East Asian Money Coins and banknotes of East Asia, seventh century BC to the present Department: Coins and Medals Academia profile Helen Wang looks after the Museum’s collection of East Asian coins and banknotes. She also has a special interest in the archaeologist Sir Aurel Stein (1862-1943), his extensive collections, the Silk Road and the use of textiles as money. She also works as freelance expert in Chinese textiles and dress, advising international institutions and university lecturing. With a degree in History of Dress from the Courtauld Institute of Art, London, and over 14 years as curator at the V&A, she has gained a wide understanding of both Asian and Western material culture. She is currently the Emerita Senior Scientific Researcher (Directrice de Recherche Emérite) at the C.N.R.S. (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, France), and also a collaborator of the Franco-Chinese Archaeological Mission in Xinjiang (China).
