(2018)The Beautiful Story of Celadon Green
Date: 2022-11-18
This presentation will tell a beautiful story illustrating the travels of colour fashions along the Silk Roads: how Chinese and Korean historical celadon (greenware) potteries took their name in Europe from the colour worn by a character in the French 17th century pastoral romance, L'Astrée , by Honoré d'Urfé and how, reciprocally, their colours inspired a fashion for celadon green both in Europe and in the Ottoman Empire, and started much research and innovations in the dyeing technology of French dyers of the 18th century.
